The Floor is Yours

The project "The Floor is Yours" is a two-year public programme resulting from the collaboration between Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam (lead partner), MUseum MOderner Kunst Foundation Ludwig, Vienna, and Mart, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto. The local partners of the Martare Comunità La Foresta and LABA.

The title “The Floor is Yours” is itself a stance: the museums in the network give the floor to the public, fostering new perspectives on the museum and pursuing real social inclusion. What we want to create is a reversal of perspective: different audiences are not simply invited to come to the museum to experience its narratives, but are involved in the creation of new stories.The objectives of the project are therefore to experiment new processes of collaboration with some of the social actors in the area and to build a network capable of fostering the dissemination of good practices.

Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen

Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is a multifaceted museum in the heart of the Netherland’s harbour city, Rotterdam. It is the only museum in the Netherlands that offers the visitor a comprehensive survey of Western art from the Middle Ages to the present day. The museum building is closed due to major renovation, but the collection will be visible in other museums. And of course, Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen is open to visitors.

Mumok, MUseum MOderner Kunst Foundation Ludwig

LABA, the Free Academy of Fine Arts

The philosophy of the LABA has always involved close collaboration between the students and teachers, with the aim of developing talent and creativity to the maximum, also through experiences able to stimulate the students on a human, cultural and professional level. The LABA is sensitive and receptive in relation to the contemporary world and conducts cultural research in continuous movement, and its watchwords are sustainability, innovation, evolution.

The project so far

The Floor is Yours is a two-year project that began in April 2023. During these two years there will be a succession of events, workshops and initiatives at local and international level co-planned by the three partner museums.

The results of the experiences will be shared as they go along on this web page, displaying and providing evidence of the activity.
