Conceived as a cultural hub rather than a traditional museum, Mart represents a true 'contemporary landscape'.
The suburban nature of the area has enabled a quality initiative that responds to the needs of those who love culture, nature and well-being.
Mart, Contemporary landscape
Our story
Founded in 1987 as an operational agency of the Autonomous Province of Trento, the Mart, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto, has three locations: the Museum's headquarters (a large architectural complex inaugurated in 2002 and designed by Mario Botta and Giulio Andreolli) and the Casa d'Arte Futurista Depero are in Rovereto; the Galleria Civica, which became part of the MART in October 2013, is in Trento. Conceived as a contemporary agora, the Mart is a unique museum in an exceptional setting.
Architecture
A steel and glass dome designed by Mario Botta atop a welcoming, visitor-friendly courtyard: this is the architectural feature that has always distinguished Mart. Discover the reasons and details of a project "in constant interaction with light".
The Collections
The Mart's Collections include around 20,000 works of art ranging from the nineteenth century to contemporary art, including Futurism, the Novecento Italiano, Abstractionism, Informal Art, Arte Povera, and Transavanguardia up to the most recent artistic research.
Education and cultural mediation
Workshops, cultural mediation, training: these are just some of the initiatives that the Education Area offers to schools, teachers, families and people with specific needs.
Digital projects
Mart was the first Italian museum to host a Wikipedian in residence, and is also one of the main partners of the Google Cultural Institute. It pursues digital research by offering innovative itineraries on Alexa, Telegram and Messenger.
