The Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wien, mumok, in Vienna, in collaboration with its local partners, the Nachbarrinnen association and Migrantas collective in Berlin, has organized various co-creation workshops involving around 120 women resident in Vienna, who have explored their relationship with art and the reality of life in Austria through autobiographical drawings based on the works of the mumok collection. The predominant themes have been migration, raising profiles and self-determination.

After in-depth discussions on the formal and thematic decisions to be taken, the joint multilingual work involving mumok’s two local partners has led to the realization of almost 200 pictogram drawings. In a democratic group process, all the participants decided together on the further uses of the pictograms produced, for instance, bags, books and posters were created.

Within the sphere of the Talk in Pictures | We through Art exhibition, staged at the mumok and open to the public from 5 to 17 September 2023, visitors to the mumok had the opportunity to see all the drawings and the resulting pictograms. These are moving signs of emancipation and raised profiles that establish equality-based coexistence as a possible signage system.
