Alfio Ghezzi

ALFIO GHEZZI BISTROT MART is a café and informal dining service during the Museum's opening hours. SENSO MART, open in the evening, is the fine dining interpretation of the chef's cuisine and offers two different experiences: Cucina del Senso and Antologia

The bistro, which is easily accessible from the Mart’s courtyard, combines the great languages of Italian tradition: cuisine, art and design.

Interior colours and atmospheres are the result of a collaboration between Mario Botta and Baldessari and Baldessari studio. Seats and lights created by great Italian designers are set alongside reproductions of works by Gillo Dorfles, in a free flowing dialogue with Mart's collections.

The bistro menu also includes the Museum's signature sandwich: the iconic Mart Burger, marked with Botta's dome logo. It features the best carne salada from Trentino, red sauerkraut from Alfio Ghezzi's Antologia preserves, mayonnaise, stewed onions, baby spinach, and Casolet cheese from Trentino.

An 18th-century manuscript in the Rovereto Civic Library describes the recipe for Celteno. This Trentino dessert is derived from the mountain culinary tradition of using only readily available, storable ingredients and therefore often varies from valley to valley.
It is a dessert that was normally prepared with the help of everyone, during the winter solstice, hence its name, which is said to derive from the German adverb 'selten', meaning 'sometimes'. Alfio Ghezzi’s Bistrot offers it all year round, with a different finish and with the nuts and candied fruit replaced by white almond paste printed with Mart's iconic dome.

Bread is at the heart of Alfio Ghezzi's Bistrot café menu. Alongside the Mart Burger is Pan bagnato di montagna, which showcases the simple ingredients from the Trentino region without sacrificing innovation.

The café service at Mart’s bistro offers breakfast with tea cakes, such as apple or carrot cake.

The evening tasting menu at Alfio Ghezzi's “Senso” restaurant also includes a dish dedicated to the current Mart exhibition.

Luciano Baldessari (1896-1992)
His early training began in the art environment, with his participation in the Futurist movement in Trentino. In 1922 he graduated in architecture from Politecnico di Milano. In 1923 he moved to Berlin, where he worked as a theatre set designer. In Italy in 1926 he began a phase of architectural design inspired by Rationalism. From 1939 to 1945 he worked in New York, before continuing his professional activity in Milan.

Franco Albini (1905-1977)
He graduated in architecture from Politecnico di Milano in 1929. He was a pioneer of “design culture” in Italy and one of the leading figures in the development of rationalist thought in architecture, furniture and exhibition layout.

Achille Castiglioni (1918-2002)
He graduated in architecture in 1944. He has had an eclectic career, ranging from architecture, to urban planning, to installations, and is internationally known for his design projects.

Mario Botta (1943)
Born in Mendrisio, he graduated in 1969 from the Istituto Universitario d'Architettura in Venice. He has designed and built schools, banks, administrative buildings, libraries, museums, houses of worship and design objects.

Vico Magistretti (1920-2006)
He graduated from Politecnico di Milano in 1945 and is recognised as one of the leading figures in the history of Italian design after WWII. He is the author of seminal works in architecture and design, and has made the name of Lecco known far beyond national borders, also through his teaching work.

Piero Lissoni (1956)
Architect and designer, he graduated from the Politecnico di Milano in 1985. He is responsible for developing architectural, industrial and graphic design projects for leading design companies.
