Twenty years after his death, the Mart pays tribute to Luigi Ferro, a passionate collector who, with his wife Carla Riboni, created an exceptional collection of 20th-century Italian masterpieces, on deposit at the Mart since 2006. About 50 works which include Boccioni, de Chirico, Savinio, Sironi, Morandi, and Fontana are a testament to the tastes and life of a selective and scrupulous collector.
Curated by Denis Isaia, the exhibition intends to illustrate the sentimental biography of Luigi Ferro, a man born into humble circumstances, who relied on his own concreteness, stubbornness and intelligence to build a successful life as an entrepreneur, and in parallel, as a fine collector. Story of L.F. showcases the main groups of works that moved and impassioned the collector. From the tale of the rural and still 19th-century world of his humble childhood in the suburbs of Verona, to the role that women - first and foremost his wife Carla Riboni - played in his life, to the discovery of modernity made up of mechanisation, style and speed (the exhibition will also feature two automobiles that belonged to Ferro), and the more hermetic meditation captured in Luigi Ferro's deep interest in the works of Giorgio de Chirico.
