The Mart presents a group of works by Nicola Bolla. Made using hundreds of playing cards, some mandalas, a star, and a crocodile greet visitors and accompany them from the basement floor toward the rooms. Nicola Bolla’s cheerful style is inspired by Baroque and Roccocò, from which Bolla derives his freedom of interpretation and vivacious spirit. The artist is particularly fascinated by collections from Cabinets of Curiosities. His use of playing cards evokes how cosmoses are built through the scrupulous, painstaking overlapping of signs, with an almost infinite number of combinations. Nicola Bolla’s playful, fascinating shapes and visions turn their backs on socially engaged works of art, offering stories that show the more ironic, witty side of life.
