"GOLFO MISTICO" is the latest in a series of exhibitions by Mart president Vittorio Sgarbi, confirming the museum's vocation as a meeting place and exhibition space open to the public. It is a site-specific installation by Alessandro Neretti, AKA Nero (1980), an artist who trained in the field of ceramics in Faenza and who has worked with very different media over the years, closely examining and comparing the different disciplines.
Nero's installation comprises several levels extending from the centre of the piazza to the ‘matroneo’ and is inspired by the shape of an orchestral pit. The installation conjures up the image of an open-air theatre and connects several components through light and sound. At the centre of the installation is a metal structure that resembles something from a construction site and serves to represent a meeting point between the classical and contemporary worlds. The installation's technological component makes it possible to randomly illuminate 50 different architectural spaces in the matroneo, all of which contain site-specific installations created by the artist.
