Wainer Vaccari (Modena, 1949) reworks Raphael's Christ Falling on the Way to Calvary, creating an evocative bond between this Renaissance master and contemporary art.
In a contemporary vision Vaccari recreates this great Raphael 1517 work, originally commissioned for the Monastero di Santa Maria dello Spasimo in Palermo and now, after considerable vicissitudes, in the Prado Museum in Madrid.
A painting virtuoso, capable of measuring up to the historical styles, Vaccari brings to life and contemporary relevance a now lost Raphael, Portrait of a Young Man (1513-14) once held in the Krakow Museum where it was stolen by the Nazis in 1945.
