The Mart presents an exhibition focusing on the work of artist Marco Ferri. The itinerary is composed entirely of works from his studio. Born in Tarquinia in 1968, Ferri shifted away from his early base of landscape painting towards a freer variety of influences, ranging from Etruscan and Mediterranean culture to abstraction.
The exhibition explores the last two decades of the artist's work by juxtaposing his sculptural and pictorial pieces, in perfect alignment with the ambiguity of the author's objects, consistently somewhere between painting and sculpture. In fact, Ferri's heavy painted panels lean towards being three-dimensional works thanks to the material nature of the surfaces, achieved through a process of removing rather than adding and freely inspired by restoration techniques. Similarly, his sculptures recapture geometries and colours that are clearly inspired by painting.
The doubtful attitude that gives the exhibition its title relates precisely to the dimensional vagueness that characterises the artist's objects, at the same time recalling Ferri's attitude towards his work. It is the attitude of a sophisticated bricoleur, the art of assembling, disassembling and reassembling. From all of this comes an original story that hides in the dramatic, slow and inexorable transience of time just as much as it does in the free play of form and colour, which comes to life in the surprising ceramic works.
