The Galleria Civica Trento is reaffirming its commitment as a Centre for Research and Experimentation on the Contemporary by hosting a solo exhibition featuring Christian Fogarolli (Trento, 1983).

The artist's work stems from historical-archival exploration and is nurtured by direct collaborations with scientific research centres. It follows an interdisciplinary approach that takes in - without any hierarchical barriers - disciplines such as psychiatry, anthropology, natural sciences, psychology and medical sciences.

Coming from an unusual educational background for a visual artist (degrees in archaeology and history of art followed by a Master's degree in diagnostics and restoration), Fogarolli engages in the creative act by approaching his art more as an intellectual - or as a collector, archaeologist or philologist, as the case may be - than as an artist in the common meaning of the word, although sometimes he challenges himself with the use of drawing and the pictorial medium. The resulting works question the separation between body and mind, senses and intellect, normality and deviance, with the aim of stimulating reflection on the normative attributions of illness, marginalisation and categorisation in contemporary society.
