Instituted with the objective of promoting a contemporary culture of architecture in the Autonomous Province of Trento, the Prize focuses attention on the most outstanding recent projects in the area, stimulating dialogue between architects, institutions, and the people of Trentino.
The previous Prize, awarded in 2012, comprised 146 projects that were featured in an exhibition hosted at Mart. The new edition has been organized by Circolo Trentino per l’Architettura Contemporanea – Citrac and the Ordine degli Architetti della Provincia di Trento. Entries include 131 architectural projects undertaken in the province between 2013 and 2016, in both the public and private spheres, both newly built structures and restoration/redevelopment projects of existing structures.
The entries were examined by a jury composed of Marco Biraghi, architect and professor in the Architecture Department of the Politecnico di Milano, Gianmatteo Romegialli, architect and designer (Morbegno), and Francesca Torzo, architect and designer (Genoa), and docent at the Bergen Arkitekthøgskole (Norway) and the Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio (Switzerland).
Set in an original installation that reinterprets the spaces of the Galleria Civica, the exhibition presents all the projects submitted for selection, and is enriched by documentary sections that span the history of the Prize, offering visitors an immersive experience in the role of architecture in contemporary society.
