Tribute to Umberto Moggioli

Palazzo delle Albere, Trento
20 January 2021 / 09 May 2021

he Mart and the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia (MUVE) pay tribute to Umberto Moggioli (1886-1919) with a joint exhibition dedicated to the great Trentino-born artist, a little over one hundred years after his death.
Born in Trento in 1886, and active in Venice and Rome during his career, Moggioli was at the forefront of the famous avant-garde movement, whose main hub could be found at Ca’ Pesaro in the early 1900s.
Installed in the evocative Palazzo delle Albere, the exhibition explores the main themes running through Moggioli's paintings, namely, landscapes (a genre of particular importance to the artist), and portraiture, which allowed Moggioli to emancipate himself from objective representation and shift his gaze from objects to emotions.
The artworks have been carefully selected to offer visitors an overview of Moggioli's artistic career, comparing his stint in Venice with his time spent in Verona and Rome. On display are paintings from private and public collections, including those of the Mart, the Galleria d'Arte Moderna di Milano and the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome.
In collaboration with Associazione Umberto Moggioli.
