FROM NUCLEAR ART TO PATAPHYSICS: BOOKS AND MAGAZINES FROM THE BAJ DONATION
curated by Archivio del '900
3 December 2016 - 30 April 2017

The Mart research department, the Archive of the 20th Century, was enriched in 2014 with an important corpus of documents belonging to one of the principal figures in Italian art in the second half of the 20th century, Enrico Baj (1924-2003).
The artist's wife, Roberta Cerini Baj, generously donated a part of the large library assembled by her husband over the course of his life, adding to the existing archives of writings, letters, photographs, videos, and abundant printed materias. Albeit fragmentary, this bequest reflects, like the other archival materials, the complexity of this multifaceted experimenter: his contacts with the exponents of the historical avantgarde movements and the international neo-avantgarde movements (Asjer Jorn first and foremost); his activities  in association with the Nuclear Art Movement he founded in the early Fifties; his front-stage role in experimental publishing; and, not least, his interest in Pataphysics, the "science of imaginary solutions" that so greatly stimulated his alrealdy fertile imagination.

PLANNING OR THE HOLIDAYS. VACATION DESIGN FROM THE DOLOMITES TO LAKE GARDA

curated by Archivio del '900
9 July  - 13 November 2016

A wealth of donations over the past years have enriched the extensive archives of documents from architects and engineers held by Mart in the Archive of the 20th Century. Thanks to the generosity of the heirs this exhibition is able to present a selection of project documents, watercolour illustrations, collages, sketches and photographs representing a small compendium of Trentino vacation facilities dating from the 1920s to the end of the century.

MATERIAL IMMATERIAL. VVV VERBALVISUALVIRTUAL PROJECT
curated by Nicoletta Boschiero, Cecilia Scatturin, Valentina Russo
16 April - 26 June 2016

The Mart and the Museion of Bolzano share the Archivio di Nuova Scrittura, a collection of works, books and documents dedicated to verbal-visual research. The collection focuses principally on forms of expression in Italian art of the 1960s and ‘70s featuring the use of words and visual signs.
The exhibition presents a selection of works and documents highlighting the special qualities of this collection of fragile, multivalent objects that resist classification.
VerbalVisualVirtual project set up a digital platform based on interactive maps. The platform makes it possible to explore the many interconnections between works and documents (letters, publications, photographs), the complex relations among different artists, and the entire creative process. Project partners: Fondazione MUSEION, Bolzano; Fondazione Bruno Kessler, Trento. Contributor: Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Trento e Rovereto.

RACITI. THE CARLO DAMIANO DONATION
curated by Daniela Ferrari
16 April - 5 June 2016

Combined with existing works in the museum collections, the recent donation of a significant corpus of works by Mario Raciti, a donation made by Carlo Damiano and Raciti himself, has made it possible to develop an exhibition that explores the pictorial universe of this artist from his early beginnings to his most recent works.
Balancing between remembrance and poetic song, myth and ancient symbols, these paintings lead us into a rarefied, abstract and lyrical dimension. Traces, apparitions and fragments assume form on the canvas in a fleeting figurative nostalgia, ever on the verge of vanishing, fraying into nothing or sinking into white, the artist’s favourite colour.

MIMMO JODICE. FROM THE “I COTRONEO” COLLECTION
in collaboration with MADRE Museum, Naples
16 April - 5 June 2016

Entrusted to Mart by the collectors Anna Rosa and Giovanni Cotroneo, Mediterraneo is an extraordinary cycle of images created by Mimmo Jodice, one of Italy’s preeminent photography masters, in the mid-1990s.
The works presented in this exhibition, organized in collaboration with the MADRE contemporary art museum of Naples, feature the focus on the myth, memory, culture and landscapes of the Mediterranean area that has always characterized the work of this great Neapolitan photographer.
