The Mart is dedicating an exhibition to Giuliano Vangi. A painter and sculptor, his poetics focus on the human figure, which he interprets through a powerful and contemporary language without ever forgetting the legacy of the great sculptural tradition. This is illustrated in the exhibition with works ranging from the 1960s to the present: Vangi's art is autonomous, universal, solemn. Originality is manifested in his skill as a painter and sublime sculptural ability. There is no material that is not involved in Vangi's plastic vision: the hardest stone and marble, different types of wood, metals and bronze, modern resins and ivory. At times, Vangi created multi-material and polychrome sculptures, using colours, enamels, and paints. Vangi's research embraces the whole human condition: the sense of loneliness, bewilderment, the anxieties of the present. On display are more than fifty sculptures and about twenty drawings, including one spanning a 36-meter-long wall that leads visitors into the exhibition space, whose setup is based on a design by Mario Botta.

In addition to contemporary architecture, at Mart Vangi interacts also with some Gothic and Renaissance artists. Twelve antique works are on display, including three drawings by Michelangelo, the “Bust of Niccolò da Uzzano” by Donatello, an early 14th-century Crucifix by Giovanni Pisano, but also sculptures by Jacopo della Quercia, Tino di Camaino, Agostino di Giovanni and Francesco di Valdambrino.

The exhibition is an opportunity to preview a docufilm on Giuliano Vangi, completed in recent months, with interviews with the artist, architect Botta, Vittorio Sgarbi, Nicola Loi, Studio Copernico, and Koko Okano, director of the Vangi Museum in Mishima. The documentary, by Emerson Gattafoni and Valeria Cagnoni and produced by Gekofilm S.r.l. for television, runs for 30 minutes.
